After hosting 40 Japanese students and their chaperones for two weeks in April 2019, 20 students from Cobequid Educational Centre, along with four chaperones, participated in the return visit to Japan this summer.

The Yamate Gakuin Exchange Program comes out of the school, Yamate Gakuin, in Yokohama, Japan (a city of 4,000,000 people). As part of their exchange program encouraging global citizenship, every grade 11 student in the school participates in a cultural exchange with students in North America.

Cobequid Educational Centre first participated in the exchange in 2017, with five students taking part. In 2019, CEC was able to host an entire class of Yamate students, along with their teachers. This enriching cultural program had a significant impact on those who participated, forging international friendships, first-time travel experiences for some, and global awareness. CEC participates in the Yamate Exchange Program in partnership with the Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP).
