Appointment of teachers to the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions (Council)
Superintendents of Nova Scotia School Boards have appointed 9 teachers to the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions, further to the Act Respecting a Teachers’ Professional Agreement and Classroom Improvements (Act).
We are pleased that 779 teachers expressed interest to participate on the Council.
Three classroom teachers have been appointed from each of the elementary, junior and senior high levels. The appointments include the cultural and regional representation required in the Act, as well as reflect diversity including languages, education, work experiences and leadership.
We believe the Council will be enriched by the appointment of teachers of Mi’kmaq ancestry, Acadian ancestry, African and European descents.
A strength of this Council will be the varied expertise of classroom teachers in subjects including science, social studies, mathematics and both English and French language arts. Further, the Council will benefit from those with experience as math and literacy coaches, experience with combined classes, French Immersion programming and inquiry-based learning.
Clearly there are many passionate teachers eager to contribute to decisions that will support improved classroom conditions. We anticipate opportunities to support the work of this Council, particularly in ways that will include the rich diversity of voices within our teaching profession.
