Pre-Primary Busing

Pre-Primary Bus Information

As of September 2019, CCRCE will now offer Pre-Primary Busing to eight of our Pre-Primary sites. This is part of a multi-year rollout as provincially we work towards providing access to all Pre-Primary sites for those children who are eligible for busing.

In Phase 1, the following school communities will be able to access Pre-Primary Busing in the 2019-2020 school year:

  • Bible Hill Consolidated School
  • Chiganois Elementary School
  • Cobequid Consolidated Elementary School
  • North River Elementary School
  • Rawdon District Elementary School
  • River Hebert District School
  • Tatamagouche Regional Academy
  • Thorburn Consolidated School

Busing Eligibility

For a Pre-Primary child to be eligible for bus transportation, they must live outside the 1.6 km or less designated school walking distance.

If your child is eligible for a bus this upcoming September 2019, you will receive an email from one of our Student Transportation Supervisors by Friday, August 23 that will include:

  • your child’s bus stop location,

Questions?

My child will be attending a pre-primary program that will have busing available. Do I have to sign-up for Pre-Primary Busing?

If your Pre-Primary child is eligible for a bus this upcoming September 2019, you will receive an email from one of our Bus Transportation Supervisors by Friday, August 23. This email will provide:

  • your child’s bus stop location,
  • bus pick-up and drop-off times at your bus stop
  • times and location for a Bus Orientation Session at your Pre-Primary site
  • general bus information for new riders
  • an opportunity for you to confirm your child's upcoming use of pre-primary busing

How do we find out where my child’s bus stop is located and the pick-up/drop-off times?

If you are eligible for student transportation, you will receive an email with this information included by Friday, August 23.

Will there be seat belts available for my child?

School buses are among the safest vehicles on the road due to their unique design features. The Motor Vehicle Act requires all children under 40 pounds to use a seatbelt on a school bus, if they are available.

Who will seat belt my child in on the bus?

Pre-Primary Parents will be buckling their child into their seat belts as children are picked up and dropped off at their bus stop. Our Early Childhood Educators will be waiting for your child to help them unbuckle and buckle in as they arrive and depart the school.

My child is nervous about riding the bus. Do you have an opportunity for children to practice getting on before school starts?

Yes, Pre-Primary children who are eligible to access our student transportation are welcome to join us for a Bus Orientation Session at their Pre-Primary site on Wednesday, August 28th at 10 am.

Will there be older students on my child’s bus?

Yes, Pre-Primary children are now eligible to access the regular CCRCE bus routes with our other school-aged children.

Will there be Monitors on my child’s bus?

Four-year-olds in Nova Scotia have been bused regularly and safely for more than a decade without additional supervision.

My child will only be attending Pre-Primary for three days a week. Are they still able to access busing if they are eligible?

Yes, they are. As long as your Pre-Primary child lives outside the designated walking distance, they will have access to our busing on the days they are in attendance.

When will Pre-Primary busing be available to other Pre-Primary sites?

This is the first year of multi-year rollout to our other Pre-Primary sites.

I have more questions about the Pre-Primary busing. Who do I call?
