Regional Executive Director's Office

CCRCE Regional Executive Director of Education, Gary Adams, is the educational leader of the Chignecto-Central region. He is the liaison between the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and schools, region and communities. and is accountable to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for the educational performance of students. He is responsible for ensuring all schools and regional offices are operated efficiently, and for ensuring the supervision of all regional employees.

Gary Adams was appointed as Superintendent of the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board on June 23, 2015, and assumed the responsibilities of the position on August 1, 2015. After the passage of the Education Reform (2018) Act on March 9, 2018, Gary became Regional Executive Director of Education on April 1, 2018.

He began his career as an educator in Halifax where he taught music and directed instrumental and choral ensembles at the elementary, junior and senior high school levels, as well as the Halifax All City Program. He served the Halifax Regional School Board as vice-principal of Bedford Junior High School, principal of John Martin Junior High School and Sackville Heights Junior High School. 

Gary was the Supervisor of two Families of Schools and then became the Senior Staff Advisor to the Halifax Regional School Board. He supervised principals, took responsibility for Continuous School Improvement within his family of schools and was instrumental in establishing Collaborative Learning Groups in order to improve learning outcomes for students. In his most recent role, Mr. Adams provided leadership, direction and support to the senior staff and Governing Board members of the Halifax Regional School Board and in the Superintendent’s absence, served as the Superintendent. 

A lifelong learner, Gary is committed to excellence and improving both instructional practice and student learning. A student-centered approach, high expectations, and the use of current research to advance high quality instruction have defined his approach to learning. 

He studied music education at both Acadia University and the University of Calgary, and has masters’ degrees from both Acadia University and Mount St. Vincent University in Administration and Curriculum. His leadership at the regional and provincial level has included support of curriculum development, collaborative learning communities, the advancing of assessment practices, and supports to positive school climate. 

Gary has continued to provide leadership in Nova Scotia’s musical community over the years, directing Symphonic Wind Ensembles at both Dalhousie University and Acadia University.
